Quantifying Soil Goethite/Hematite Ratios: A New Method Based on Diffuse Reflectance Spectra

چکیده
Abstract Goethite/hematite ratios in soils are widely used to reconstruct past climatic changes, but their accurate measurements have remained challenging due the matrix effect. Here we present a new method for measuring soil goethite/hematite by characterizing band position of electron pair transition (EPT) based on diffuse reflectance spectra processed continuum removal. We introduce “half‐band‐area wavelength”, λ 1/2 , characterize EPT and validate using synthetic standards made from mixing pure goethite hematite four sets goethite‐ hematite‐free matrices derived arid aeolian deposits tropical saprolite. A consistent ‐goethite/hematite relation across demonstrates that our eliminates further applying it quantify 180‐Kyr loess‐paleosol sequences comparing results reported paleoclimatic records. Our is promising improving measurement sediments.

DIFFUSE REFLECTANCE MEASUREMENTS FROM DIFFERENT SURFACES
Relative diffuse reflection measurements from the original and ground surfaces using a He-Ne laser are reported. The intensity measurements for the metallic, transparent dielectric, matte plastic surfaces and colored papers are presented. Our results indicate that among metallic surfaces tested, aluminum has the highest diffuse reflectance; while the original stainless steel surface shows the l...

Global soil characterization with VNIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy
There has been growing interest in the use of diffuse infrared reflectance as a quick, inexpensive tool for soil characterization. In studies reported to date, calibration and validation samples have been collected at either a local or regional scale. For this study, we selected 3768 samples from all 50 U.S. states and two tropical territories and an additional 416 samples from 36 different cou...

The soil or background spectra contribution to grass canopy spectral reflectance for the 0.35 to 0.80 fJ-m region was investigated using in situ collected spectral reflectance data. Regression analysis was used to estimate accurately the unexposed soil spectral reflectance and to quantify maxima and minima for soil-green vegetation reflection contrasts. generally be impractical to take detailed...
متن کاملSpectral-profile-based algorithm for hemoglobin oxygen saturation determination from diffuse reflectance spectra
Variations of hemoglobin (Hb) oxygenation in tissue provide important indications concerning the physiological conditions of tissue, and the data related to these variations are of intense interest in medical research as well as in clinical care. In this study, we derived a new algorithm to estimate Hb oxygenation from diffuse reflectance spectra. The algorithm was developed based on the unique...
